What is the Mako System?
The Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology process starts with a CT scan of the patient’s knee or hip that is used to generate a 3D virtual model of their unique anatomy. This model is loaded into the Mako System software and is used to create a personalized pre-operative plan. With the Mako System for total hip replacement and total knee replacement, the surgeon uses a state-of-the-art robotic arm and computer-guided mapping software to replace the hip or knee joint with an implant. With this 3D technology, your surgeon can ensure the implant's ideal compatibility with your specific anatomy and pre-plan your procedure to maximize results. Mako surgery can reduce pain and shorten recovery time, getting you back to the activities you love.
Mako Total Knee Replacement Surgery
With the Mako System for total knee replacement, the surgeon uses a state-of-the-art robotic arm and computer-guided mapping software to replace the knee joint with an implant. With this 3D technology, your surgeon can ensure the implant's ideal compatibility with your specific anatomy and pre-plan your knee replacement procedure to maximize results.
Throughout your procedure, Mako provides real-time data to your surgeon. This allows them to continuously assess the movement and tension of your new joint, and adjust your surgical plan if desired.
Mako Total Knee is for people with severe knee pain or stiffness resulting from noninflammatory degenerative joint disease (including osteoarthritis, traumatic arthritis or avascular necrosis), rheumatoid arthritis or post-traumatic arthritis, and those who haven’t experienced adequate relief with conservative treatment options, like bracing, medication or joint fluid supplements.
Mako Partial Knee Replacement Surgery
If someone is diagnosed with early to mid-stage arthritis, where only one or two compartments of the knee are diseased, a partial knee replacement may be recommended by a doctor.
Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology can be used for partial knee replacement, which is a surgical procedure that helps relieve the pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA) in one or two of the three compartments of the knee.
With partial knee replacement, only the damaged area of the knee joint is replaced, helping to minimize trauma to healthy bone tissue and ligaments that surround the knee.
Mako technology helps surgeons provide patients with a personalized surgical experience where each plan is based on the patient’s specific diagnosis and anatomy. A more accurate placement of the implant may result in improved outcomes and functioning of the knee.
Mako Total Hip Replacement Surgery
With the Mako System for total hip replacement, the surgeon uses a state-of-the-art robotic arm and computer-guided mapping software to replace the hip joint with an implant. With this 3D technology, your surgeon can ensure the implant's ideal compatibility with your specific anatomy and pre-plan your hip replacement procedure to maximize results.

The Mako System is designed to treat a variety of hip-related pain resulting from DJD conditions such as osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis and hip dysplasia. During total hip replacement surgery, the damaged parts of the hip socket and thigh bone are replaced with an artificial hip joint, also known as a prosthesis or implant.
